SUMMER LOVIN

Well, Well. What a week it has been!

I try to keep this blog only to my professional workings filled with designs and inspirations. I will throw in a few personal tidbits, but overall I try to stay on point. I have my own political beliefs, but I would not say I'm a political person. I will never be one to preach to anyone what they should or should not be doing with their life, but after recent events all around the world, I just want to take a moment to remind everyone that "The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return!" That is all.

Speaking of Love.....this months theme at Sweet Salvage is Summer Lovin! What a fun market this is going to be. My interpretation on this theme is all about "Glamping." What is glamping?? It is glamorous camping. Glamping describes a style of camping with amenities and resort-style services not usually associated with "traditional" camping. It's taking all the comforts and style of home and placing it in a tent. Now this might not be exactly practical to some, but believe me, it is amazing!!

Glamping works best when it is in a stationary location. I've seen this design applied to people who have cabins or property and set up little retreats on their land. There are also lots of "Glamping" type resorts that have popped up all over the World that have adopted this glamours type of camping.

Fireside Resort, Jackson Hole, Wyoming

I've taken a Glamping meets Ralph Lauren, meets Americana, meets Military type of theme.

If you can't afford to go to a "Glamping" type of resort. You can accomplish the same type of luxury by bringing a few comfort essentials with you. For example: these amazing Vintage Military Cots. They fold down for easy travel and are very comfortable to sleep in. Throw on your favorite blankets and comfy pillows and you will sleep like a baby!

Now, while a chandelier in your tent may be desired by not available, :) opt for lots of different types of lighting with lamps and lanterns. You can create that cool rustic feeling of fire lit lanterns in your tent using vintage rustic lanterns and battery operated candles. Don't forget the coffee and somewhere super cozy to sit to take in the amazing morning views!

Those are just a few fun tips on how you can incorporate some fun rusty and vintage items into making a glamours camping trip. Quite the oxymoron!

It's all about bringing the indoors out.....or is it the outdoors in?

LIFE'S ABOUT CHANGES

Nothing ever stays the same. My life has done a complete 360 in the last two months. All good things and all positive things, but many balls to juggle at once. So many doors of opportunity have opened for me and my family and we have walked through everyone!

I am a strong believer the when you open yourself and declare to the Universe "I am ready to receive," you better be damn sure you are ready, because it will answer. Be careful what you wish for.....you just might get it! In less then two months we have sold our home of 8 years, I started a new business venture, and we are building a new house. I think that's enough to drive anyone mad. But I asked for it, and here it is!

Everything went well with selling our home, it was the staging, packing and moving that was the crazy part. The home we are building won't be ready for one month, so we are staying in a rental until then. So while we were moving stuff out of the sold house, I was still moving stuff in to paint and to stock for the next Sweet Salvage show. Needless to say, it all worked out.

Which brings me to my second show at Sweet Salvage. It was just as exciting as the first, but more nerve wrecking. Now I knew what to expect and what was expected of me. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss.

The theme for lasts month's show was "Sweet Retreats," all about your favorite spaces to relax and be yourself.  My favorite place to relax, is anywhere outdoors. So I went for a cozy and classic black, white and wood theme, with hints of greens.

My favorite items that I found for the show, were these incredible vintage movie theater chairs. There were 6 total. They have fabulous metal hardware, folded in two separate places and each had patent numbers printed on them.

u

These are the kinds of unique finds that I just live for! I actually had no knowledge of what type of chairs they were when I bought them, but I just fell in love with them. That is what I call a happy accident.

I had them displayed on my wall like this for the opening day of the show. By the second day, they hadn't sold. Either the customers were crazy......or I was! These chairs were amazing! How did they not go right away? So I mixed it up a little. I stenciled and hand painted numbers 1-6 on them. I also took them off the wall and incorporated them around my friends/fellow vendors farmhouse dining table and they went like that! Once people could sit in them and feel how sturdy and comfortable they were they were sold. {I think the numbers my have helped too:)}

Doesn't my friends space look amazing! Ya'll, if you haven' been down to Sweet Salvage, the you are missing out. We have some of the most amazing and talented designers. Everyone has their own vibe and interpretation for the months theme and it is just a visual playground!!

Overall it was another great experience and I've decided to give a shot for the long haul.

And just like that, we are to next month's theme, "Summer Lovin!"  Stay tuned......hopefully I'll get my next post out before the next show starts!

AND......I'M BACK!

It's only been 4 years and 3 days in the making, but I am finally back in the blogosphere!

To say that my life has changed in the last 4 years is an understatement. I really can't believe it has been that long. I will try and catch you up to speed with the short short version!

Last time I posted I had just finished my little girls nursery, which you can see here! She is now three and well on her way to a big girl room. I am now a blissfully happy (and exhausted) mother of 2!

I stayed at home with my daughter until she turned 18 months old. I took a position as a Visual Merchandiser part time at a local Interior Design Boutique 5 minutes from my house called CoCo Milanos. The commute was awesome! The Designers were awesome! The experience was awesome! But in the end, it wasn't where my heart was. I am all about Re-purposing, Re-decorating, and Re-designing. I love to take broken pieces and make them new again. I love vintage! I love originals! I love mixing old and new! And I love to hunt for it all!

This brings us to current day...I have changed the name of my blog and my business. Once was The Consigner Designer, is now Artistic Abode Designs. I feel it encompasses more of what I am about and what I do. I am so excited to be pursing my true passion. I have a spot at Sweet Salvage in Downtown Phoenix, Arizona. They are a 4-Day shopping event, open the 3rd Thursday each month. This means I get to shop and hunt the rest of the month for the upcoming shows. Needless to say, I have been dragging my kids around to every Thrift Shop, Antique Store, and Flea Market in the Valley. I think they are starting to like it! (Not!! They are 6 and 3!)

Sweet Salvage has a theme for every monthly event. This month is "Color Stories."

I have created a vignette using my favorite colors of the moment; Mustard Yellow, Gray, and Blue. I'm obsessed with this color combination and am so excited that this will be my first show. For those who aren't able to attend, I've included some pictures for you to see. For those of you who are in the area, I hope to see you there!!

OPEN THE 3RD THURSDAY EACH MONTH
THURSDAY 10:00 AM - 9:00 PM FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM

We are back to our regularly scheduled program! Now that we are in the month of September, the count down begins. Only 4 weeks left until my little girl is scheduled to arrive. The nursery is almost complete. I wanted to share with you today a DIY Hot Air Balloon Mobile I made! Just a few more items to help accessorize the room and tie everything together, and we will be ready.....well, the nursery will be anyways!

At first glance, you are probably thinking, awe, those are cute! Wait until you see what materials I used to create them. It takes the cuteness up a level!

MONOGRAMMED WREATH

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program (NESTING THE NURSERY) to bring you a quick tutorial on making a Monogrammed Wreath.

With the holidays coming up, This is a great wreath to make that can be added to as the seasons approach. It also makes a great personalized gift! I recently gave this wreath as a gift to my clients who's house I have been working on as a little thank you! They seemed to love it and I hope you will too!!

By far, my most favorite part of designing a room would be shopping for the furniture, art and accessories that go into that space! This is when it all starts coming together! These are the items I have bought, accumulated, or made so far;

CONCEPTUAL CONCEPT

Looks like I may have put my "Cart Before the Horse." After reviewing my past post on Nesting the Nursery, I notice I may have gotten a bit ahead of myself. Last week I gave you tips on how to accessorize the room and showed you a DIY project I was working on with my Fantastic Fandelier. I was so excited about that project that I may have jumped ahead a little bit. For those of you who are following this blog and using these steps to help you transform your Nursery or space in your home, I want to give you the proper steps to follow in order to achieve the look you want!

With that being said....first things first, or third thing second....anywhoo.

THE CONCEPT BOARD:

Once you have followed the steps in Nesting the Nursery, Pour Une Petite Fille (phase I); achieving your paint colors for the room and an overall theme, the next item of business is creating a concept board to help you carry out that vision! There is a great site out there that helps you create an online concept board. I am sure some of you have noticed fellow bloggers and designers using it. Well today I am going to share that secret with you. (I am either going to make friends, or lose them here!) It is called Olioboard! Olioboard allows you to create online customized concept boards for your spaces!! I used their site to help me create my custom concept board for my nursery. (Back in the day, these items were cut out by hand and glued to an actual board! Ha Ha, have to keep up with the times if you want to stay relevant!!)

Accessorizing your little one's nursery is the best time to help your theme come to life! Some examples of items you can use to tie your theme together are bedding, wall art, curtains, rugs, pillows, and lighting fixtures. All of these can help pull a room together to give it a harmonious look. The nice part about accessories is they can be replaced easily later on without doing any major work to the room. Remember my son's "Transported" Little Boys Room. This is the exact method I used!

Creating your own accessories is a great way to add customization to your little one's space! If you are not super crafty, but would like to add something unique and special, your local craft stores carry unfinished tables, toy chests, boxes, shelves, frames, and other items that you can paint to match your theme. This is a fun and inexpensive way to add your own personal touch!

I have a few different ways that I am adding personal touches to my Little Girls Room. Today I want to share with you a Fantastic Fandelier I made.

NESTING THE NURSERY, POUR UNE PETITE FILLE (PHASE 1)

The Nesting Instinct refers to an instinct or urge in pregnant animals to prepare a home for the upcoming newborn(s). It is found in a variety of animals (both mammals and birds) including humans.

Preparing the nursery is something that can be both wonderful and daunting for new parents as well as seasoned parents. Since my husband and I are about 3 months away from welcoming our 2nd child, a new baby girl, we are right in the thick of it! I wanted to share with you a few tips that I use when designing a nursery that you may find helpful in designing yours.
(These tips can actually work for any room you are looking to redo in your home!)
